Miami's skyline is set for a noteworthy upgrade with the announcement of a new Royal Caribbean cruise terminal at PortMiami. The groundbreaking ceremony, held yesterday, marked the start of construction on the $345 million Terminal G, projected to be up and running by late 2027. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, alongside county commissioners and Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, celebrated the investment that is to bolster the local economy through job creation and an increased economic impact. WSVN reported the new terminal will have capacity for the next generation of cruise ships, including the likes of Icon of the Seas, serving up to 7,000 passengers with its own parking garage.
Funding for the expansive project, the new Terminal G, is a shared enterprise: 46% covered by Miami-Dade County, roughly $159 million, and the remaining 54% by the Royal Caribbean. This financial commitment was ratified by the Miami-Dade County Commission back in July 2025, with The Miami Herald detailing that both Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises, brands owned by the Royal Caribbean Group, will also utilize the new facilities.
Levine Cava expressed optimism about the terminal's contribution to the city's skyline, affirming it would "enhance Miami-Dade County's skyline while marking another milestone in PortMiami’s evolution," as mentioned on The Miami Herald. The influx of these new jobs, alongside the visual appeal of the terminal's design, are anticipated to signal a transformative era for PortMiami and its business operations.
Further commenting on the project's significance, Jason Liberty told The Miami Herald, This world-class facility will transform "how we do business and move people," emphasizing the cutting-edge technology and sustainable design of the upcoming terminal.
