New Year’s Day started in the dark for thousands of San Diego residents, as widespread power outages cut electricity across the county. The largest clusters hit neighborhoods on the city’s south and near-central sides, leaving homes and small businesses without heat, lights and internet through the morning. SDG&E crews were reported on scene and said they were investigating causes while working to restore service.
Where the Lights Went Out
As of today, the SDG&E outage map showed roughly 8,172 customers without power in the Logan Heights, Mountain View and Lincoln Park areas. The map also listed about 745 customers affected in Clairemont, Bay Park and Morena, plus smaller pockets in La Mesa at about 370 customers and El Cajon at around 132 customers.
Stormy Weather and Official Warnings
Local reporting first flagged the outages as a Pacific storm moved through the region. FOX5 San Diego noted that SDG&E said the cause was under investigation and that crews were responding to multiple circuits. The National Weather Service issued flood and flash‑flood warnings along with other advisories for parts of the county on Thursday morning, conditions that forecasters said could complicate restoration work.
