Two individuals are grappling with life-threatening injuries following a shooting incident at Rockstarz Bar in Garden City, Michigan, on the first day of the new year. ClickOnDetroit reports that authorities received calls around 4 a.m. and responded to the harrowing scene in the establishment's parking lot. Both victims were promptly taken to local hospitals and were reported as critically wounded.
The suspect behind the shooting, after the act, turned themselves in later that day at around 2 p.m. at the local police station, as per official statements. With information obtained by CBS Detroit, the police were able to secure the crime scene and have started a thorough investigation into the incident. The Rockstarz Bar has remained closed since the occurrence. Despite the gravity of the situation, a nearby shooting in Inkster is said to be unrelated.
Offering a brief statement through social media, Rockstarz Karaoke Bar management expressed their commitment to collaborating with authorities on the matter. "We have been and will continue to cooperate with local and state police with their criminal investigation. To respect the privacy of all parties, including victims, and because of the ongoing investigation by law enforcement, we will not be providing any further comments or statements regarding the incident," they shared, an excerpt from a statement on the bar's Facebook page, as referenced by The Detroit News. "We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victims and will be keeping them in our thoughts and prayers."
As the investigation continues, Garden City Police are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the department at (734) 793-1700. The incident comes during a week marked by multiple violent events across the Metro Detroit area, including a fatal shooting at an apartment complex and a self-inflicted gun death that injured a pedestrian, prompting renewed calls from authorities to address ongoing gun violence.
