Mayor Zohran Mamdani is reorganizing New York City Hall’s communications team with key hires, including Anna Bahr, who will lead strategy and oversee digital and agency communications. Bahr, formerly a communications director for Senator Bernie Sanders, said, "Mayor Mamdani is modeling a different kind of government — not a billionaire-funded, consultant-driven administration, but one that champions the needs of working people," according to the Office of the Mayor.
Joe Calvello will serve as Press Secretary, bringing experience from campaigns and city communications, while Monica Klein joins as Senior Advisor for Communications, having led major city and statewide campaigns. On the new team, Bahr added, "It’s what New Yorkers deserve and I’m proud to be part of his team," as reported by the Office of the Mayor.
Dora Pekec will continue as Senior Spokesperson for Mayor Mamdani, leading rapid response and Room 9 operations, with experience in campaign communications and work with national political figures. Lekha Sunder joins the senior communications team to coordinate messaging across city government, previously working on Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. The new hires are part of the city’s effort to strengthen communications with residents, as stated by the Office of the Mayor.
