On Thursday night, a car incident shook the 1856 Apartments in San Marcos, when a minor crashed into the building while reportedly "listening to music," according to CBS Austin. The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m., affecting four of the complex's units and leading to investigations by both the police and building inspectors to assess the extensive damage.
The San Marcos Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident, which remains uncertain, and the affected building, 13, is expected to be without power as crews work to secure the area. According to the same CBS Austin report mentioned, the police also advise locals to avoid the vicinity of the complex located along the Interstate 35 South Frontage Road.
Remarkably, despite the severity of the crash, there have been no reported injuries from the incident, a fortunate occurrence amidst the chaos, however the misfortune of the tenants is apparent as it has been indicated that the impacted units will need to be unoccupied for an indefinite period of time, the number of displaced residents is yet to be determined as per CBS Austin's account of the situation.
Additional reporting by KVUE corroborated the crash, noting that initially two units were reported impacted, but the situation seemed to escalate, affecting more parts of the complex as police continue investigating what led up to the moment the vehicle was driven into the building.
