The North Carolina Retirement Systems (NCRS) has reportedly released tax documents for nearly 400,000 retirees, ahead of the usual January 31 deadline. According to a press release from the Department of State Treasurer, this move comes as a result of improved operational efficiencies within the Retirement Systems Division. Following the holiday weekend, electronic 1099R and W2s are now available, signaling a commitment to proactive service.

For retirees eager to access their documentation, the NCRS has made these available online. By logging into their ORBIT accounts at ORBIT.myNCRetirement.gov, members, having registered, are granted access to their electronic tax forms. This convenience will persist, with a note that beginning February 1, a new single sign-on system, courtesy of ID.me, will take over the authentication process to maintain a high standard of account security and access.

North Carolina Treasurer Brad Briner expressed the department's dedication to enhancing member service. "A top priority for our department is making things easier, safer and more efficient for our members," Briner is quoted saying in the previously mentioned press release. "This early release of needed tax documents is just one example of how we are better serving North Carolinians."

In line with the Treasurer's comments, the NCRS prides itself on both robust and reliable service for over one million North Carolinians, including a broad spectrum of public servants. The fund, boasting $142 billion in valuation, is notable not just for its size as the ninth largest public pension fund in the U.S., but also for its status as one of the nation's most well-funded systems.
