In a recent effort to crack down on impaired driving, the North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) engaged in heightened enforcement as part of Nevada's Joint Forces program. This program is a statewide initiative to improve traffic safety coordinated by the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Office of Public Safety. According to an announcement on the NLVPD's social media, the enforcement period spanned from December 16, 2025, to January 5, 2026, resulting in 82 enforcement contacts, 10 DUI arrests, and 1 warrant arrest, among other citations for various traffic violations.
Officers dedicated significant resources to this endeavor, with 32 overtime hours and 36 regular duty hours all aimed at ensuring the safety of the roadways in North Las Vegas. The department's Major Crash Investigation Unit has noted a drastic decrease in traffic fatalities, responding to 19 fatal collisions in 2025, which accounted for 21 fatalities—a 44% decline when compared to 2024.
In an ongoing fight against traffic incidents, NLVPD made a notable 850 DUI arrests during the year 2025. This represents an 11.2% increase from the previous year and coincides with a reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes, as reported by the NLVPD's Facebook post. These figures suggest that increased enforcement can have a positive impact on improving overall traffic safety.
The Joining Forces program is not just limited to DUI enforcement; it also extends its reach to address other critical issues on the road such as speeding, distracted driving, seat belt use, and pedestrian safety.
