An evening drive in northeast El Paso turned deadly Monday when two vehicles collided at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stan Roberts, leaving one driver fatally injured and marking the city’s third traffic death of 2026. Special Traffic Investigations responded to the scene and took over the case, and city officials released their account of what happened the following day.

El Paso Police shared the department’s written statement on social media, linking to a Nextdoor post that includes the full release, according to the El Paso Police Department via a post on X. The department's post is embedded below.

What the city release says

According to the city’s news release, the crash happened around 5:55 p.m. Monday at the 13100 block of Martin Luther King and 4500 Stan Roberts. Both drivers were traveling northbound when the collision occurred.

The release identifies the drivers as 78-year-old William Beschle of Chaparral, N.M., who was behind the wheel of a 2016 Hyundai Tucson, and 46-year-old Carlos Jackson of Chaparral, who was driving a 2020 Ford F-350. Beschle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and later died.

Investigators said that for unknown reasons, Beschle attempted a right turn from a mandatory left-turn-only lane and listed an “improper right-hand turn” as a contributing factor in the wreck. The city notes this is El Paso’s third traffic fatality of the year and that earlier January crashes included one that led to an intoxication manslaughter arrest earlier this month, according to the City of El Paso.

Investigators and contacts

Special Traffic Investigations remains on the case. The release lists media contact information as “Media Contact: Ofc. Adrian Cisneros #2121, [email protected], 915.838.5098,” according to the City of El Paso. Investigators said they will release additional details as their work continues.
