A kitchen fire on the 1200 block of Mt. Vernon Road was extinguished by the Northern Wake Fire Department on the evening of last Saturday. According to a Facebook post, the blaze, caused by cooking oil left on a stovetop, was quickly contained, preventing further damage.

The fire was reported at 5:45 p.m., and Engine 31 responders found flames spreading to the kitchen cabinets. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, and all units returned to service except Engine 31, NW Battalion 1, and Ladder 15. No injuries were reported.

Following the fire, the residents of the home will need temporary housing due to the damage. The Northern Wake Fire Department is assisting with accommodations and shared safety tips, including turning pot and pan handles inward to prevent spills and burns.
