According to CBS News Bay Area, the search activity centered on the 4300 block of Gold Run Drive. Neighbors were urged to steer clear of Gold Run Drive, Lariat Lane, Placer Drive, Prospect Court, Sutter Street, El Dorado Street, Sonora Court, and Silverado Drive. The alert, posted just after 11:30 AM, also asked anyone living on those streets to stay inside and report anything unusual to law enforcement.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office told reporters that the shooting happened at about 11:30 a.m., when a person fired at a deputy and set off a large law-enforcement response, according to CBS News Bay Area. Investigators described the suspect as a white man in his mid-40s who was last seen wearing a hat and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Officials urged people in the affected area to stay indoors, lock their windows and doors, and avoid the listed streets while officers searched for the suspect. Authorities also asked residents to stay off the phone and not to call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
