Following the unsettling echo of gunfire that fractured the Christmas morning calm in Ocala, local authorities have confirmed the death of 21-year-old Ja'Narre Suggs. WESH 2 reported that the Ocala Police Department responded to the scene near the 800 block of W. Silver Springs Place at around 4:11 a.m.
Amid the subsequent investigation, a young man, 19-year-old Curnelius A. Brown Jr., was arrested on December 30. Despite the silent witnesses, as no one spoke when WESH 2 arrived, the presence of investigators signaled an intense search for evidence. In a statement obtained by WFTV, police articulated the charges against Brown Jr. that include second-degree murder with a firearm, possession of a machine gun, and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
The grim discovery of Suggs' demise marks a stark divergence from the festive spirit typically associated with the season, prompting the Ocala Police Department to appeal to the community for assistance. Investigators were going in and out of a home and taking photographs, illustrating the meticulous gathering of evidence in pursuit of justice.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could shed light on the incident. Culminating in a call to action, OPD can be contacted at 352-369-7000, or tips may be conveyed through CrimeStoppers of Marion County at 352-368-7867 or via their website, detailed by WESH 2. While the community reckons with the violence that has claimed one of its own, the Ocala Police emphasize that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
