On Sunday, heavy black smoke filled the skies over Oklahoma City as firefighters responded to a blaze at a scrap metal recycling center located at 5700 S High Ave. The fire involved multiple scrap vehicles and pools of vehicle fluids, posing a hazardous situation for responders, as reported by the Oklahoma City Fire Department.
Arriving around 2:30 p.m., the Oklahoma City Fire Department used drones to assess the scene and coordinate their response. Crews fought the flames with master streams, aerial operations, and specialized foam lines to control the dangerous fire.
An excavator helped firefighters move debris and burned vehicles, allowing them to fully extinguish the fire and prevent damage to nearby structures or harm to people—there were "no exposures and no injuries reported," according to the Oklahoma City Fire Department on their Facebook page. Crews stayed on site during the final cooldown before safely leaving. The department used the hashtag #OKCFD and the phrase "HereIfYouNeedUs." Cleanup and investigation into the fire’s cause are ongoing.
