Good news for commuters, as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has lifted some of the traffic obstructions that have been plaguing Oklahoma City drivers. Following a crash earlier in the day, all lanes of westbound I-240 near Eastern Ave. have reopened, as reported on January 22. However, there's a heads up for those driving through on Thursday night — expect closures and narrowing on SH-152/Airport Rd. ramps at Meridian Ave., according to ODOT's traffic advisory. The eastbound on-ramp from Meridian Ave. and the westbound off-ramp to Meridian Ave. will be closed, with SH-152 also being narrowed to one lane between Meridian Ave. and Portland Ave.
The advisory extends beyond immediate concerns, forewarning continuous delays as projects permeate across the city's veins into the spring of 2026. Indeed, east and westbound N.E. 23rd St./SH-66 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between N. Lee Ave. and N. Harvey Ave. through early February for a construction project. The ongoing work implies that drivers tread a gauntlet of narrowed roads and shuttered ramps.
For those eyeing I-44 and SH-152/Airport Rd., note that the road will be constricted until spring 2026, along with the eastbound I-44 on-ramp from 74th St. being closed for a corridor widening project. Additionally, I-240 will feel the squeeze around I-35, with various frontage road closures and intermittent narrowing in play as a part of the interchange improvement project that will persist through 2026. It's a similar story at the I-44 and N.W. 10th St. junction, where ramps are sealed off for a city bridge project until summer 2026, as per ODOT's advisory.
Those bypassing I-40 at Douglas Blvd. in Midwest City will have to juggle lanes until early 2026, when the highway narrows to two lanes in both directions with restricted merge distances. Moreover, adjustments around SH-4 between Wilshire Blvd. and SH-3/NW Expressway and up to the SH-66, US-81 intersection in El Reno are set to continue through early 2026, where lane reductions and roundabout construction could add minutes to your commute. The roundabout at SH-66/US-81, in particular, is an area to watch, as it will be a focus for work inside and around the structure until fall 2025.
Among the myriad of closures, drivers can find some relief as Anderson Rd. and its I-40 on and off-ramps are now welcoming traffic again. But the entire stretch of SH-152 between Banner Rd. and Cemetery Rd. near Union City will remain off-limits until late spring 2026, routed instead through a cumbersome detour utilizing US-81, I-40, and SH-4, as per ODOT.
