A fatal collision on westbound Interstate 80 in Vallejo on Sunday morning left one person dead and two others hospitalized, officials reported. The crash, involving a white Honda Accord and a blue Toyota Prius, occurred just east of Redwood Street, according to ABC10. The Honda’s driver, a Hispanic man in his 30s, was killed; his identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
According to FOX40, the accident occurred just after 7:30 a.m. when the Honda Accord was stopped in traffic. Both the driver and passenger stepped out and were struck by an oncoming Prius. The crash prompted lane closures while authorities investigated, but the lanes reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
The passenger from the Honda sustained major injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the Prius driver, who complained of pain, was also hospitalized as a precaution, according to ABC10. CHP has not provided further details about the condition of the injured individuals.
The incident caused significant traffic delays, with westbound lanes closed for more than an hour. The lanes have since reopened. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident, and additional details are expected once the report is complete.
