Orangevale Man Crushed In Nighttime Tractor Flip Near Oak Avenue

A man died last night after a tractor overturned and pinned him on private property in Orangevale, turning a routine evening of work into a fatal emergency. Crews responded shortly after 8 p.m. to the area near Oak and Mountain avenues, where they found the tractor operator trapped beneath the machine. The operator, who was the only person on the tractor, did not survive.

According to KCRA, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District confirmed the response, and the California Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred on private property. CHP said the man was ejected when the John Deere tractor rolled, and the vehicle came to rest on top of him. Oak Avenue was closed between Mountain and Cardwell avenues while officials dealt with the aftermath, and authorities said the crash remains under investigation.

Tractor Overturns Remain A Common, Deadly Farm Hazard

While this tragedy unfolded in a suburban pocket of Sacramento County, the type of accident itself is sadly familiar to farm safety experts. Tractor rollovers account for a disproportionate number of farm deaths and continue to rank among the leading causes of fatal farm injuries. Between 2011 and 2018, there were 971 tractor-related fatalities in agricultural production, and roughly 45 percent of those deaths were tied to overturns, according to NIOSH. The agency recommends rollover-protective structures, known as ROPS, along with seat-belt use to cut the risk of death when a tractor flips.

CHP told KCRA that Oak Avenue was shut down between Mountain and Cardwell avenues while first responders worked the scene and investigators documented the crash.
