An Orlando man has been detained by the police after he was caught allegedly stealing mail from an apartment complex while impersonating a postal worker. Last month, 39-year-old Sean Cronin was arrested at the Aria Beach Apartments, located at 3119 South Semoran Boulevard, as reported by WFTV. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a theft report and discovered Cronin in the act of stealing mail.
According to the Orlando Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. last Monday. Cronin was apprehended without incident and had in his possession burglary tools as well as a significant amount of mail from various local apartment complexes. During the arrest, no mail truck was present, nor was Cronin dressed in a mailman's uniform, raising the suspicion of authorities. He claimed he was "picking up all the mail" at the complex, a statement obtained by WESH.
Furthermore, it was discovered that the bicycle Cronin was using at the time of his arrest was also stolen. This led to additional scrutiny by law enforcement. Cronin is now facing several charges relating to the mail theft incident. Among these charges are grand theft, loitering and prowling, possession of burglary tools, and possession of personal identification information, a troubling aspect of the case given the potential damage to the victims' privacy and finances.
