Tragedy struck a quiet suburb in Oswego, Illinois, on Thursday evening as two people were killed in a devastating house explosion. NBC Chicago reports that the Oswego Fire Protection District confirmed the fatalities after responding to the explosive incident at the 200 block of Fox Chase Drive North shortly after 5 p.m.
The first responders arrived to find that a two-story house had not only collapsed but was also completely engulfed in flames. While firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, a natural gas line continued to burn aggressively, presenting additional challenges to the emergency crews on the scene. NICOR urgently responded with a dig crew to clamp off the gas supply, ultimately allowing the firefighters to safely proceed with their operations, according to NBC Chicago.
"When firefighters were able to search the home, they found two bodies inside. The Kendall County Coroner's Office responded and is leading the investigation into these deaths," as relayed by CBS News. As of now, the origins of this catastrophic event remain clouded in uncertainty. The collaborative efforts between state fire marshals and federal agencies underscore the intense search for answers. More information is expected to be released following the in-depth investigations by the involved authorities.
