A man is in critical condition after what police describe as a pack of dogs attacking him in the O’Fallon neighborhood of north St. Louis on Saturday evening. Officers found him unresponsive on the ground near Carter Avenue and Alice Avenue around 6 p.m., and he was rushed to a St. Louis hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Police response and animal control
Officers arriving on scene around 6 p.m. saw two dogs bolt into a nearby vacant home, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, as reported by First Alert 4. They then found an unresponsive man on the ground and had him transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Animal control officers later captured the dogs and removed them from the area.
Context: A neighborhood with repeated attacks
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of severe dog attacks in north St. Louis. In January 2025, a deadly mauling in Walnut Park West left a 62-year-old woman dead, KFVS12 reported. That earlier coverage noted that city code allows the health commissioner to decide whether dogs involved in attacks causing severe injury or death should be euthanized, and that animal control typically seizes those animals while investigations are underway.
Investigation ongoing
Police have not released any information yet about the dogs' owners or whether anyone might face charges. The department says the investigation remains active, according to First Alert 4.
