Page, Arizona, became the scene of a concerning incident on Monday afternoon when police encountered a speeding vehicle driven by an intoxicated individual who was responsible for a toddler at the time, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. The Page Police Department detailed that an officer observed the car going 20 mph over the speed limit before noticing it weaving between lanes, a typical sign of impaired driving.
Pulling over the vehicle near South Lake Powell Boulevard and Clubhouse Drive the police officer conducting the traffic stop subsequently identified signs of "extreme alcohol intoxication," and upon administering a breathalyzer test, the driver's blood alcohol content was measured at a staggering 0.293, which is over three times the legal limit in Arizona, substantial evidence adding validation to the officers' initial suspicions, all of which was noted in a statement from the police department. The driver's license was also found to be suspended at the moment of the arrest, further complicating the suspect's legal predicament.
Further investigation revealed that the driver was actually tasked with babysitting, watching over the one-year-old child found inside the vehicle, a service they were providing while the child’s mother was away at work, as azfamily.com reported. After the police intervention, the child was safely returned to their mother.
As the police continue their investigation, the driver faces serious legal charges, including aggravated DUI with a child in the vehicle and child endangerment. However, authorities have not released the name of the accused at this juncture. The Page Police is considering whether additional charges may be warranted as the situation unfolds and the driver's actions are scrutinized further; all of this comes as the Department of Child Services has been notified and is conducting its own inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the endangerment of the child.
