The Hawai‘i Police Department has charged a Pāhoa couple with serious crimes against a minor. After a six-month investigation, 34-year-old Chancen Micah-Kaikane Schutter and 37-year-old Chesiree A.K. Canite face accusations of sexual assault and child abuse. The case began with a report in July last year, and a grand jury issued an indictment and bench warrants for Schutter and Canite last Monday, as per KHON2.
Police were unable to initially locate Schutter and Canite at their Pāhoa home. Canite was later arrested on Oahu last Wednesday, while Schutter turned himself in to the Hilo Police Station on Wednesday and faced charges including First-Degree Promoting Child Abuse and multiple counts of sexual assault, with bail set at $250,000, as reported by KITV.
Both Schutter and Canite were also charged by a grand jury with producing or being involved in child pornography related to incidents in February 2025. Canite was released on electronic monitoring after her arraignment, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Detective Jenny Lee or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
