Universal City is about to smell a lot smokier in the best way possible. Frank's Pollo Asado Los Norteños is moving into 121 Pat Booker Road, taking over the former Rapid Fired Pizza spot and planning a third San Antonio–area location built around its mesquite-grilled chicken. The restaurant has confirmed the new address but has yet to nail down an opening date.
According to Community Impact, the expansion plans surfaced in a Jan. 6 Facebook post from the restaurant, which identified the Pat Booker Road site and noted that the opening timeline was still "TBD" at the time. The new outpost is slated to fill the former Rapid Fired Pizza space.
Roots and Other Locations
The concept traces back to Nueva Rosita in Coahuila, Mexico, where it began in 2006 as a fundraiser for a local church, according to the restaurant's website. Today, Frank's operates two other locations in the San Antonio area: one at 4822 Walzem Road and another at 15511 Applewhite Road, Suite 121. The menu leans heavily into pollo asado, rounded out with fajitas, hamburgers and sweets like tres leches.
Neighbors React and the Old Tenant
The expansion coverage from the San Antonio Express-News noted that the Facebook announcement drew dozens of congratulations and a warm welcome from nearby businesses. Local listings show the Pat Booker address as the former home of Rapid Fired Pizza, which is marked permanently closed, clearing the way for Frank's to move in.
No opening date has been announced, and owner Frank Garcia had not responded to media inquiries as of the initial coverage, according to Community Impact. Until the grills fire up, would-be customers will have to keep an eye on the restaurant's website and social media channels for the official word.
