Houston police are currently investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that took place late Monday night on the Southwest Freeway. The incident, which resulted in the death of an unidentified male pedestrian, occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. near South U.S. Highway 59, as reported by City of Houston News.
Details from the police indicate the pedestrian was attempting to walk onto the freeway's main lanes when struck by a black Infiniti QX60. Following behind the Infiniti, traveling eastbound struck the pedestrian as well, was a black Mercedes C250. Trying to cross the freeway, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The drivers of both vehicles involved cooperated with investigators, police said. A 36-year-old woman driving an Infiniti and a 22-year-old man driving a Mercedes remained at the scene after the crash. Authorities reported that neither driver showed signs of intoxication. After being interviewed, both were released as the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation is being led by Sgt. D. Rose and Officer A. Thomas, according to the City of Houston News.
An official identification of the victim will be provided pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. At present, working to unravel the circumstances of that fateful encounter, the authorities have not disclosed additional details pertaining to the investigation.
