A tragic incident took place last night in Akron, where a pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV. The accident happened around 6 p.m. near a traffic signal in the 1600 block of Brittain Road, outside the Fred Nimmer Apartments. The pedestrian, later identified as 62-year-old Teodoro Garcia Orrala, was crossing the street when he was hit, leading to fatal injuries that resulted in his death after being transported to a local hospital.
According to Cleveland19, the vehicle involved was a northbound Ford Explorer. The driver of the SUV, a 24-year old man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The Akron Police Department has yet to determine who was at fault in the accident, and no charges have been filed. It was also confirmed by police that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash.
WKYC reported that it remains unclear whether Orrala had the right of way or if the driver entered the intersection against the traffic signal. The Akron Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward and provide any helpful information.
