A tragic scene unfolded on I-65 North near Rosa Parks Boulevard in Nashville yesterday morning when a pedestrian, as yet unidentified and clad in dark colored clothing, was struck and killed by a vehicle. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, obtained by WSMV, the incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. and involved the pedestrian who was sitting in the middle of the interstate at the time of the accident.
The individual was hit by a northbound Hyundai Sonata, the driver of which was 19 years old. The driver stopped immediately after the collision and stayed at the scene, a factor that has been consistent across multiple reports, including FOX 17’s coverage of the event. Efforts by the medical examiner’s office to identify the deceased are ongoing; it has been reported that their work is underway to resolve the pressing question of the pedestrian’s identity.
The section of the interstate where the crash occurred was subsequently closed down for a period to allow an investigation to take place, as reported by WKRN. The young driver's cooperation with the authorities has been noted, and as of now, the police have not provided further details regarding potential charges or contributing factors in this fatal encounter.
