The Peoria Police Department is now leveraging a new tech tool to gather feedback from the community members it serves. The tool, known as My90, is produced by Axon and aims to provide a confidential way for residents to deliver their thoughts and experiences following interactions with police officers. It's part of an ongoing push to promote transparency and accountability within the department.
Peoria's adoption of My90 was announced this month, allowing residents to share their feedback via a short, anonymous survey. Such surveys are sent through text messages after specific encounters with law enforcement personnel. Although residents may receive texts, they should note that no personal or incident-specific data is being collected. Instead, the aggregate feedback is meant to offer the department a window into community sentiment and areas for potential improvement.
Chief Thomas Intrieri is championing the initiative, stating, "My90 enables us to connect and engage in a meaningful way with our community," as mentioned on the City of Peoria website. He emphasized the value in utilizing community feedback for bettering call service outcomes and positively evolving public service approaches.
Peoria's approach reflects a larger, nationwide call for policing reforms and the desire for stronger community-law enforcement relationships. The My90 feedback, according to the department, will inform policy updates, shape officer training agendas, and finesse community engagement strategies. Residents are strongly encouraged by the force to participate when they receive a My90 survey as each response is a step towards forging a stronger partnership. Since rolling out on January 6, the Peoria Police hopes that My90 will mirror the department's pledge to maintain a safe and cohesive environment for all its residents.
