A three-story apartment building in Pflugerville went up in flames Friday afternoon, sending thick smoke across the neighborhood and forcing residents to rush out of their homes. Crews later pulled back after a partial roof collapse, and one firefighter was treated for minor injuries while several residents were evaluated for smoke exposure. Officials say the blaze may have damaged roughly two dozen units as firefighters worked to get the situation under control.
According to FOX 7 Austin, about 40 firefighters from Travis County ESD teams and mutual-aid partners responded after a call came in just before 4 p.m. The station reports crews were met with heavy flames racing through the upper floors, and that some residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Roof Collapse and Firefighter Injury
Per a statement from Travis County Emergency Services District No. 2, crews arrived to find fire extending between multiple floors and into the attic, a setup that can let flames travel fast and out of sight. During those early operations, part of the roof failed. The agency said one firefighter suffered minor injuries in the collapse and was receiving treatment while crews continued searching the building to confirm everyone had made it out.
Displacement and Investigation
As reported by KXAN, officials estimate up to 24 apartment units may have been affected, and crews are still assessing how many people will ultimately be displaced. The Travis County Fire Marshal's Office is expected to investigate the cause of the fire once firefighters have the scene fully under control, according to KXAN.

Fire crews remained on scene into the evening, checking for hot spots and examining neighboring units for possible smoke or heat damage. Travis County ESD No. 2 says it will continue to provide updates through its official channels as officials determine how many residents are displaced and what recovery and assistance will look like in the days ahead.
