A 17-year-old Philadelphia resident has turned himself into police after a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a local DJ. The teenager, accompanied by his attorney and mother, is now facing charges for his alleged involvement in the December crash that killed 54-year-old June Rodriguez. According to 6abc, the teen surrendered on Monday and is being charged as a juvenile with a list of offenses, including homicide by vehicle and driving without a license.

The incident, which took place on December 20 near North 56th Street and Lancaster Avenue, tragically ended as Rodriguez was biking home from his job at Bob and Barbara's Lounge. As reported by NBC Philadelphia, Rodriguez was making a left turn when he was struck by a red SUV, which then proceeded to not only swerve but also to flee the scene. Despite being taken to the hospital, Rodriguez was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The police investigation made headway earlier this month when surveillance video helped to identify the vehicle involved. As per CBS News Philadelphia, the crucial footage allowed law enforcement to pinpoint the make, model, and license plate of the SUV. This development led to Monday's surrender by the teen, who lives in the city. The juvenile’s name has not been disclosed due to his age.
