Maryvale High School senior guard Adrian Stubbs scored 100 points against Kofa High School in Yuma last Tuesday, setting a new Arizona high school basketball record and breaking George McCormick’s 75-point mark from the 1965–66 season. Stubbs reached the 100-point total in three quarters, with Maryvale leading 109–25 when he stopped playing, and he averages about 30 points per game, according to ABC15.
Throughout the game, Stubbs shattered Nico Mannion’s 6A single-game scoring record with strong support from his teammates and coach, who said, “This kid doesn't cease to amaze me. His will to win and fight and grit are second to none.” After pouring in 35 points in the first quarter, Stubbs recalled, “I think I had 35 at the end of the first quarter and my coach gave me the green light,” as reported by AZCentral.
Stubbs credited his teammates, saying, “That was probably the most unselfish game (from teammates) I've ever seen in my life. Without them, this would not be possible.” Coming in averaging 24 points with only junior college offers, Stubbs called the moment “so surreal,” and the historic performance could significantly improve his future prospects.
