In the early hours of January 9th, Pierce County deputies engaged in a high-speed chase with a red Dodge Charger Pursuit. The vehicle, traveling well over the posted speed limit of 35 mph on Pacific Ave S, initiated a pursuit after failing to stop for officers. The ordeal concluded with the suspect crashing the car into multiple parked vehicles at a roundabout at S Tacoma Ave and S 88th St. According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department blotter, the 18-year-old driver exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently booked on multiple charges, including DUI and reckless driving.
The same day, reports of a man discharging a firearm prompted another police response in Spanaway. Residents around the 18600 block of B St. E called authorities after witnessing a male subject shooting a pistol while walking down the road. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department blotter states that deputies located the individual, who fled immediately upon sighting law enforcement officers. After a brief chase involving the suspect jumping a fence and running into someone’s backyard, the man was apprehended without incident. A search of the nearby area revealed a hidden pistol behind a set of children's outdoor play toys. The suspect, a 32-year-old male, faces charges for unlawful discharge of a firearm, among other offenses.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department officials continue to investigate both incidents. The offenders remain in custody, awaiting court proceedings.
