A tragic accident occurred in Pittsburgh's California-Kirkbride neighborhood when a 7-year-old boy succumbed to injuries after being accidentally shot days earlier while playing with a gun. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the death of Kruz Bailey-Baker on Wednesday evening at UPMC Children's Hospital, as reported by WPXI.
The incident unfolded last Saturday when officers responded to a 9:45 a.m. report of a shooting at a residence on the 900 block of Kirkbride Street. According to police, at the scene, they found that a 7-year-old had been shot in the head. A 9-year-old child indicated that he and his younger brother were playing with a gun in the basement when the firearm discharged. The 7-year-old was immediately taken into surgery at an area hospital but later died due to his injuries, as detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh.
No adults were present at the home during the time of the shooting. It was reported that an adult responsible for the children had left for work shortly before the incident occurred. Authorities took both the 9-year-old and a 16-year-old boy, who was also at the home during the incident, into custody for questioning. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the events leading up to the fatal accident, and as of now, no charges are pending.
