West Plano just landed a new player on the Dallas North Tollway dining strip, as J. Alexander’s quietly opened its doors Monday and started serving wood fired steaks, sushi and its buzzed-about carrot cake. The ground-up restaurant is in soft opening mode for now, with management urging diners to book ahead while the team finishes training and gears up for full service. A second North Texas outpost in Prosper is already on the horizon, expected later in 2026.
Inside the Plano Restaurant
The Plano location leans into the brand’s polished-but-casual vibe, built around a large U-shaped bar that dominates the dining room and an open kitchen where guests can watch the line at work. There is even a "sushi robot" helping finish rolls, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The menu sticks to the J. Alexander’s playbook of steaks and seafood, with a few dishes tailored specifically to Plano. A Mardi Gras pasta loaded with crawfish, shrimp and andouille runs $29, while a Texas redfish with tasso cream sauce is priced at $36. Steak fans will find options like steak frites at $35 and a pineapple marinated rib eye with smashed potatoes at $49. Starters are built for sharing, with items such as spinach queso and grilled artichokes hovering around $16.
Reservations, Menu and Prep
The restaurant already appears on the brand’s official site with a dedicated Plano page that links to reservations and the local menu, and the company’s main site also connects diners to its full menu and booking system. According to J. Alexander’s, the kitchen team starts prep early each day to support a wood fire cooking program and an all in house dessert lineup.
How the Chain Is Scaling Here
Leadership has made it clear this North Texas move was not a spur of the moment decision. Operators told local reporters they have been eyeing Texas for years and put significant weight on training to keep food and service consistent from market to market. "It’s been a long time coming for us to get to Dallas," regional director Flannigan Clifford said, while vice president Nick Tzompanakis emphasized that "the No. 1 thing is consistency." About 30 chefs were trained specifically for the Plano kitchen, and staff from 23 J. Alexander’s locations came in to help prep the opening, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.
Prosper Next
The Plano debut is just the first step. J. Alexander’s has already signaled a second Dallas area location in Prosper, expected in late summer 2026, per Community Impact. Ahead of opening in West Plano, the company was hiring aggressively, with roughly 90 to 100 front and back of house positions reported by RestaurantNews.com.
For now, the Plano restaurant will serve as the test kitchen for any North Texas specific menu additions before the brand decides whether to roll them out to other locations.
