In what can only be described as a cinematic cliffhanger, the much-loved Pruneyard Cinemas in Campbell clinched a last-minute deal with its landlord that will keep its screens lit and seats filled. The agreement with Florida-based Regency Centers comes as a welcome plot twist following the announcement last week that skyrocketing costs would shut down the theater by month's end. As reported by San Jose Spotlight, the local spot will continue to offer a reprieve from reality through its mix of films, culinary events, and unique community gatherings.
The dispute with Regency Centers, which had escalated into a legal lawsuit sparked by claims of unreasonable rent hikes amid industry woes such as the COVID-19 pandemic and entertainer strikes in 2023, now seems resolved, though details of the arrangement are kept under wraps. As per San Jose Spotlight, "Your enthusiasm and encouragement were instrumental in helping us reach an agreement with Regency Centers, allowing us to continue serving our beloved community of Campbell and the South Bay."
Founded in a historic building rejuvenated in 2018 after Camera 7's closure, and enhanced by the Cedar Room, a restaurant and bar, Pruneyard Cinemas has become a cornerstone of the local social scene. As shared in a heartfelt post on their website, Pruneyard Cinemas and Cedar Room extend their thanks to the City of Campbell and Regency Centers, crediting their survival to the "wonderful guests, amazing staff, and talented artists" that shape their establishment.
