Putnam County residents narrowly escaped disaster yesterday when a fire broke out in a home on Landscape Road. According to a post from the Putnam County Fire Department, the incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. The first responders, arriving promptly within five minutes, were greeted by the sight of light smoke wafting from the single-story residence.
The home's occupants had taken initial steps to combat the flames, using a fire extinguisher to hastily try to quell the kitchen stove fire they believed was extinguished. Firefighters advanced inside and waged an interior attack, swiftly containing the situation. They found the trouble localized to the kitchen stove area, and the fire was quickly brought under control. "Crews transitioned to overhaul operations to check for extension," the department's social media post details, adding confidently, "No extension was found."
Post-fire procedures included ventilation efforts to clear the residual smoke, ensuring the safety of the structure’s inhabitants and integrity. With the assistance of Baxter Fire Department, which responded as part of an automatic mutual aid agreement, the teams worked together effectively, displaying interdepartmental cooperation in times of emergency. The fire, causing only minor damage, resulted in no injuries.
