On Tuesday afternoon, a 14-year-old from Milwaukee found themselves at the wrong end of a gun, forced to hand over a pair of shoes valued at $200. The location: the 5700 block of S. Kirkwood Avenue in Cudahy, where a supposed acquaintance escalated a sneaker sale into an armed robbery. In a post made by the Cudahy Police Department, Chief Anthony Andrews detailed the incident, noting its targeted nature: "This was NOT a random robbery."
The police moved quickly to unravel the case, swiftly coordinating with the South Milwaukee Police Department. Their collective effort paid off. Within little more than a day, the suspects were in cuffs, a tidy conclusion to what could have continued to unfold as a much darker narrative. Chief Andrews commended the team-up on social media, saying, "This was exceptional police work by both the Cudahy PD and South Milwaukee PD," their detective work resolving to definitively close the case, all within a 28-hour window.
At the heart of the crime, two South Milwaukee residents: a 15-year-old, now in the grip of juvenile authorities facing an armed robbery charge; and an 18-year-old, staring down the stern face of the Milwaukee County Criminal Justice Facility, booked for Party to a Crime – Armed Robbery. The police departments' collaboration not only managed to securely fasten the handcuffs on the accused but also to recover the firearm used and reunite the stolen shoes with their rightful owner, according to the Cudahy Police Department.
The role of social media in relaying real-time updates on community safety measures has once again proven to play a critical role, as local police departments reach out directly to citizens, providing assurance and transparency. Through a post shared on their official Facebook page, the Cudahy Police Department not only managed to highlight the swift actions taken by law enforcement but also to solidify community partnerships, together forming a stronger shield against local crime.
