A house fire that erupted in Mililani yesterday was subdued by the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD). The incident began unfolding at approximately 1:30 p.m. when neighbors alerted first responders to signs of distress emitting from a single-story dwelling.
According to Hawaii News Now, the neighbor's 911 call was punctuated by the unmistakable sound of smoke alarms, signaling the urgency of the situation. Arriving at the 94-400 block of Lanikuhana Place, HFD units found light smoke stealthily making its way from the home. By 1:37 p.m., the team was executing forcible entry as no occupants were present.
KHON2 reported that the response included eight units and 24 firefighters who rapidly engaged in aggressive fire suppression tactics. Securing a water supply with haste, they launched an attack using handlines and managed to rein in the fire by 1:44 p.m., achieving extinguishment roughly forty minutes later.
Once the flames were quelled, efforts shifted towards ensuring the blaze had been thoroughly stifled. Overhaul techniques, which are crucial for removing smoldering debris and preempting any fire hidden in void spaces, were performed as stated by Hawaii News Now. Even though the home was vacant, firefighters meticulously searched every nook for both people and lingering threats. With the imminent peril vanquished, the HFD Fire Investigator is now tasked with unearthing the fire’s origin and damage cost.
