The city of Ramsey is giving its residents an environmentally friendly way to divest themselves of holiday cheer. In a move to encourage sustainable practices, the local government is accepting old holiday lights for recycling until January 30. Those living in and around Ramsey who've decided to upgrade their festive decorations can drop off their outdated strands at the Ramsey Municipal Building, according to a recent social media post by the City of Ramsey.
The recycling initiative is straightforward: residents can bring their non-working or unwanted lights to 7550 Sunwood Drive NW during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, it must be remembered to remove any plastic framing from the lights before recycling. Accepted items include strands of holiday lights, along with extension and appliance cords. While eager to rid themselves of the old and make room for the new, residents must remember this extra step to ensure compliance with recycling guidelines.
The effort reflects a growing consciousness around the issues of waste and sustainability, especially in the wake of the holiday season, which often sees a surge in consumption and disposal. By providing a place to recycle these materials, Ramsey officials aim to lessen the community's environmental footprint. The campaign only accepts certain types of cords and lights, so residents should avoid bringing items that cannot be processed through the program. This ensures that the recycling process is both efficient and effective.
