The City of Cookeville has named Randy Hammock as the new maintenance superintendent for its Leisure Services Department, a role that commenced on December 1st. Hammock, a longstanding member of the department, is stepping into his tenth year with an extensive background that spans various sectors, including grounds and building maintenance, as well as electrical and pipe fitting expertise.

Prior to his promotion, Hammock had wielded tools as the city's plumber, and despite initial reluctance to step up as superintendent, support from his colleagues played a significant hand in his decision. "I was nervous to apply at first, but my coworkers encouraged me, and I’m grateful for their support," Hammock told the Cookeville official website. "Since I started the position, I haven’t even had time to be nervous. I am enjoying being busy making the city better."

The Leisure Services maintenance team, now under Hammock's supervision, holds the responsibility for the upkeep of all city-owned parks and facilities. Their work is pivotal in ensuring that recreational spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the community.

Hammock brings not only his hands-on experience to the table, but also an intimate knowledge of the city's infrastructure. Leisure Services Director Chad McDonald highlighted Hammock's qualifications, saying, "Randy has a broad skill set and a deep understanding of our parks and facilities." He pointed out that Randy's "experience across multiple trades and his commitment to the department will serve the city well." Looking to the future, Hammock is eager to lead several ongoing projects, such as the construction of new restroom facilities at Cane Creek Park and enhancements near the Recreation Center's pickleball courts and splashpad area.

A native of Jackson County, Hammock's educational background includes a high school diploma from Jackson County High School and vocational studies from Livingston in PLC systems, electrical work, and drafting (CAD).
