Over the weekend, a mountain biker found themselves in a perilous situation in the Sierra Buttes area but was rescued thanks to the quick actions of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District (NCCFD). According to the NCCFD, the CHP dispatched helicopter H-20 around 4 p.m. last Saturday for the rescue operation, as reported by ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol’s H-20 helicopter was vital in the search and rescue operation, making their way to Fire Station 84 to onboard an NCCFD helicopter rescue technician before locating the biker, equipped with the capacity to deploy the skilled rescuer in a dramatic single-skid hover insertion. "The subject was safely secured, loaded onto the aircraft, and transported to the Town of Downieville," Nevada County Consolidated FD posted on social media.
Details of how the biker became lost were not provided, but the terrain in the Sierra Buttes is known for its challenges and can often disorient even the most experienced cyclists.
