Last night, the City of Renton welcomed 33 residents to the second cohort of its Civic Academy, an eight-week program exploring the city’s government and history. Hosted at City Hall, the free course introduces participants to the basics of municipal operations.
Participants in the Civic Academy will tour city departments, including Finance, Courts, Executive Services, Police, Parks & Recreation, Community & Economic Development, and Public Works. According to the City of Renton, the program runs through March 19 and gives residents a firsthand look at how these departments operate.
Renton’s Civic Academy is part of a national trend of programs connecting residents with local government. The initiative introduces participants to city departments and encourages greater community involvement.
