A tragic start to 2026 in the Bronx saw the year's suspected first homicide when a rideshare driver was shot dead early on New Year's Day. According to Hoodline, the 55-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to the head, near Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Firefighters initially responded to a call for a car fire at approximately 6:50 A.M. but upon their arrival, they discovered the victim inside the vehicle, which was not ablaze. The firefighters found instead, the man pronounced dead at the scene, with two gunshot wounds to his head, ABC7NY reports.
In an effort to find who's responsible for this act, the NYPD has identified Ehinel Troncoso as a suspect wanted in connection with the homicide. As per a NYPD Crimestoppers social media post, Troncoso allegedly discharged a firearm, fatally striking the victim. The public is urged to come forward with any information related to this incident by contacting NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline or submitting tips online. The victim's identity has not yet been made public as investigations continue, Bronx News 12 shared in their coverage of the grim event.
