Law enforcement is getting a fresh face in Rocklin as the local high school introduces a new course aimed to widely educate students on the criminal justice system. As reported by the Rocklin Police Department on a social media post, AJ50 – Intro to Criminal Justice is the new dual-enrollment class kicking off at Rocklin High School, after its initial launch last semester at Whitney High School.
Under the guidance of Rocklin Police Department's Lieutenant Greg Jensen, Captain Chad Morris, and Mr. Spears, over 30 students had the opportunity to slowly begin to explore various facets of the justice system from those entrenched within its day-to-day operations. This joint venture with Sierra College and the Rocklin Unified School District aims to once yearly offer AJ50 at both high schools. Principal Pappas also demonstrated support by joining in on the first day to welcome the students, as noted by the Police Department.
The program seeks not just to educate but to foster meaningful connections between students and law enforcement. According to the department's communication, the endeavor is about "building strong relationships with students and possibly spark an interest in future public safety professionals." With a multifaceted approach, the course will allow students to engage with aspects of service, leadership, and commitment that underpin a career in law enforcement.
Rocklin's initiative reflects a broader intent to invest in youth by bridging the gap between education and public service. The Police Department expressed pride in creating opportunities for students to always continue to inquire and witness the impact of public service, affirming that is how "we are proud to invest in our future."
