Tragedy struck the community of Roy early Sunday when a 58-year-old man was fatally shot during what was reported as a confrontation with two vehicle burglary suspects. According to KUTV, the Roy City Police Department responded to a call regarding a gunshot near 4200 S Westlake Drive, where they discovered the victim with a chest wound.
Despite being transported to a local hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries; his identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police on the scene gathered that two men were allegedly burglarizing vehicles in the area, and during the ensuing confrontation one shot was fired and the suspects fled soon as police officers located both suspects, one near the scene and the other at his home in a neighboring city, the latter as reported by Clinton City police in relation to an active incident in their vicinity.
The investigation has led to one suspect being booked into the Weber County Jail on charges including murder and obstruction of justice, while the identities of the two men involved remain unreleased. In a statement obtained by KSLTV, Roy police further urged residents in the nearby areas to review their camera footage for any signs of suspicious activity and to report any evidence or additional vehicle burglaries to Weber Dispatch at 801-395-8221.
This incident not only left a man dead but also sparked an overnight shelter-in-place order, which, according to a social media post from FOX 13 News, left many in the community unsettled and seeking answers as they were left in the dark about the exact nature of the incident until details gradually emerged from ongoing police reports.
