
As Sacramento continues its efforts to address homelessness, the city released data highlighting recent progress while underscoring the challenges that remain. According to Sacramento City Express, data published Friday, January 23, covering the week of January 12–18, shows the city’s Incident Management Team addressed 2,319 new homelessness-related cases. The cases stemmed from 582 calls to the city’s 311 customer service system, with the updated tracking method showing that a single call can generate multiple cases, offering a more detailed view of the city’s response efforts.
The closure of 2,123 cases by the IMT further indicates movement in the city's strategy, pointing to either resolved cases or issues dissolving before inspection. The Department of Community Response has managed to enroll 78 individuals into databases streamlined for shelter and resource matching. At the same time, housing placements have been modest, with 16 people finding shelter at the City's Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC).
Shelter space remains a scarce commodity; the Roseville Road campus reported full capacity with no cabins left, and the OEC, with only five spaces open as of January 20, the city-funded shelters averaged a mere 25 vacancies, not including those two facilities. Waste removal efforts were substantial, as over 76,000 pounds of debris were eradicated from sites around the city, a hefty figure that underscores the cleanup operations attached to homelessness management, as per the Sacramento City Express.
The City of Sacramento has increased transparency by launching an online dashboard that provides weekly updates on outreach, compliance, and cleanup efforts carried out by the Incident Management Team since September 2023.
