The Sacramento Zoo has welcomed a new North American river otter named Darla, who is now swimming and playing alongside her biological brother, Jackson. After a few months of preparation, Darla’s introduction completes a careful process to help the siblings adjust to sharing their habitat.
While otters are naturally playful, getting Darla and Jackson to coexist smoothly took time, patience, and adjustments to sharing space. Zoo officials noted, "Just like siblings, sometimes the two can squabble over space as they get used to one another," as reported by Fox40.
Darla and Jackson are river otters at the Sacramento Zoo. Jackson has a whiter neck and chest, while Darla has less white fur. Zookeepers say these markings can help visitors tell them apart. Darla has been at the zoo for several weeks with Jackson, according to CBS News Sacramento. More information about the otters and other zoo attractions is on the Sacramento Zoo website.
