Salt Lake City is gearing up for a unique celebration, The Watch Party, that will bring people together for the world’s biggest winter sports event. Announced by Mayor Erin Mendenhall, the event will take place at the Civic Center, located at 450 South 250 East, and promises to be a festive occasion for all, especially fans of athletic prowess and community spirit.
Slated to kick off on Friday, Feb. 6, The Watch Party is more than just a big screen to watch athletes compete; it's a reclaim of winter space that bundles up the Olympic spirit with local camaraderie. As Mendenhall shared in her vision, "My hope and my vision is that while we get to celebrate our incredible athletes competing on the global stage, what we’re also doing is reclaiming this space as a winter space," she said, as per Salt Lake City.
Opening Night is charted to be a cascade of events, beginning with entertainment at 4 p.m., a performance by Joshua James at 5 p.m., followed by an array of additional performances, a drone show, and the primetime broadcast stretching from 7 to 10 p.m. Olympic gold medalist and NBC analyst Ted Ligety anticipates the event with enthusiasm, attributing an electric atmosphere to the upcoming games and the potent inspiration they bring, as he told the Salt Lake City, "It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to come here, watch these events, watch so many athletes make history, and just be inspired for the next eight years."
