San Antonio Animal Care Services is seeking foster homes for over 100 dogs as cold weather approaches to prevent overcrowding and keep pets safe. Opening a foster home this weekend is considered critical to protect animals from harsh conditions, according to the City of San Antonio.
SAACS is hosting Foster Matchmaking Events on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. at 4710 State Highway 151 to quickly pair pets with suitable homes. The organization will provide all necessary supplies, including food and medical care, for those who choose to foster, as reported by the City of San Antonio.
Fostering is important during extreme weather when shelters can become crowded. The San Antonio Animal Care Services initiative helps pets find temporary homes and provides support for people new to fostering. During the Foster Matchmaking Events, trained staff will assist participants, and the San Antonio Animal Care Services team says, "Short-term fosters play a vital role in saving lives during extreme weather events." Residents who can provide a safe, warm space for a pet are encouraged to join, as stated by the City of San Antonio.
