In a relatively low-key ceremony, District 8 Councilmember Ivalis Meza Gonzalez has officially taken the oath to join the Bexar Central Appraisal District (BCAD) Board of Directors. Her induction comes after a nomination by the City Council back on December 4, with Gonzalez looking to provide vital oversight for an entity that underpins local property tax operations. "I am proud to serve on this distinguished board on behalf of San Antonio residents," Gonzalez stated in remarks reported by the City of San Antonio news release.
As a member of the BCAD Board, Gonzalez aims to strategically use her position to help better the governance issues within the appraisal district. The responsibilities at hand are serious business, including participating in the budget review and reappraisal planning, amongst others. With an eye on fairness and transparency, Gonzalez is set to quickly begin to integrate herself into the machinations of the board. "This work is essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring fairness and transparency in a process that impacts families and businesses across our city," she outlined her commitment as per the City of San Antonio website.
The BCAD Board plays a crucial role in managing the appraisal system that affects the county at large, though they don't set individual property values themselves. Instead, the board’s tasks involve deciding on budgets, shaping the reappraisal plans, selecting the Chief Appraiser, and also appointing members to the Appraisal Review Board.
