An officer-involved shooting last Thursday has concluded with the suspect in custody following a high-speed pursuit that ended in Spring Valley. The chase began when the San Diego Police Department spotted a stolen vehicle around 12:40 PM near Euclid Avenue and Imperial Avenue, with the driver refusing to heed the call to stop, igniting a chase that would eventually be halted by spike strips laid out by the SDPD, although the vehicle continued on until crashing near the intersection of Jamacha Road and Gillespie Drive, as confirmed by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.
The incident resulted in minor injuries to an officer and substantial damage to a patrol vehicle. As the solo suspect, identified as Edwaun Walter Thames, emerged from the vehicle, officers say they spotted an item appearing to be a firearm; upon his failure to comply and supposedly reaching for the object, Officer Henry Ingram Jr., discharged his service weapon, striking Thames, who then received medical intervention and now faces multiple charges, informed the Sheriff's Office.
Residents in and around Spring Valley, a neighborhood with a history of high-tension law enforcement encounters, have been closely following updates surrounding the recent event. A report by Hoodline has highlighted the community's push for transparency post-incident, likely fueled by past contentious incidents like the deputy-involved fatal shooting in late 2024, shaping local attentiveness to such violent confrontations.
