In a scramble to curtail reckless driving, two San Joaquin County Sheriff’s patrol vehicles collided yesterday evening. According to a statement from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred near East Main Street, close to a canal, where deputies had set out to confront off-road vehicle riders reported to be navigating their machines with abandon, as reported by ABC10.
Both deputies involved in the collision were promptly taken for medical evaluation as a precaution. While trying to intervene with the dirt bike and ATV riders accused of operating their vehicles heedlessly, the sheriffs’ vehicles unintentionally made contact with each other. The exact condition of the deputies had not been disclosed, and no civilian injuries were reported at that time.
The incident is currently under ongoing review. As the authorities continue to probe the crash, they have not indicated whether any of the dirt bike or quad riders were apprehended following the accident.
Adding further to the incident details, the California Highway Patrol Stockton Division reported, in a statement obtained by FOX40, that a total of three deputies required hospitalization due to unknown injuries. Reflecting the chaotic nature of the pursuit, the crash unfolded during an earnest effort to stop multiple riders allegedly driving without regard to public safety. The cause of the crash remains under a cloak of uncertainty amidst the investigation.
