In the wake of a fatal accident at an Alta High School intersection last week, Sandy's community is grappling with the aftermath and the search for actionable solutions. According to a social media post from Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski, Joshua Perry lost his life in an auto-pedestrian collision that has since heightened concerns over traffic safety in the area. Mayor Zoltanski extended her "deepest condolences to the family of Joshua Perry, his loved ones and neighbors," a sentiment that underscores the ripple of grief felt throughout the city.
Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski emphasized the city's dedication to public safety, "Public safety is, and always will be, our top priority." She revealed that Sandy has been considering long-term improvements, such as a potential roundabout, at the intersection for some time, which could reduce serious crashes. Nonetheless, the community's opinions vary, with some residents favoring a four-way stop instead. Mayor Zoltanski asserted that the city is taking these differences into account.
In her address, the Mayor underscored the challenging balance between long-term planning and the urgency of immediate actions. "At the same time, we recognize that long-term solutions take time. That’s why we are also pursuing short-term safety improvements that can be implemented sooner," Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski stated. This indicates an acknowledgment of the pressing need for enhanced safety measures even as broader changes are being deliberated.
